Obituary

Nicholas John Dahinden III, husband, father, Air Force veteran, athlete, sports fan, card sharp, and story teller extraordinaire, was a man of great joy and hope. He died on December 19, 2022, at age 81, in Yuma, Arizona, his winter home. In the days preceding, Nick had been working hard to regain some strength and mobility...and succeeding. He passed at a time when he was hopeful for the future and joyful at the progress made.

This was typically Nick, joy in the moment while eyeing all the possibilities of the future. Whether it was as founder and president of Precise Graphics, Inc., or playing pinochle with family, Nick's "eye on the future" meant he was prepared -- and hard to surprise. Those who put forth the effort (or were just lucky) to surprise him saw his ever-ready snicker of delight.

Nick delighted in traveling, spending most of his latter years RV'ing, in sports (yes, he really did break his finger playing basketball), and in friends; but mostly, Nick delighted in his family.

Throughout his life, Nick loved, coached, encouraged, taught, supported, out-stubborned, guided, made time for, and lead his family. He will be remembered always for his infectious grin while telling stories and groan-worthy jokes, his readiness to laugh, his seriousness when asked for advice, and his unwavering belief that his wife, children, and grandchildren can succeed at anything they choose if they want it enough and work hard enough for it. Nick gave us the gift of believing in ourselves.

Nicholas John Dahinden III is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Delores, his two children, Nicholas Dahinden IV and Kristin (Troy) Bateman, and his grandchildren Jacob and Samuel Bateman. He was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Beulah Dahinden and his sister Elaine (Bob) Smith. Nick will be remembered with love and affection by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Carla (Lloyd) Crawford, Steve (Judy) Cash, and Sharon (Bruce) Jorgensen, as well as by numerous loved nieces and nephews and their families.

No services are planned at this time, a celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests cards with your favorite stories of Nick, masses to be said, and donations in his name to your favorite veteran's association or educational charity.
